Cultivating Healthy Habits
Healthy physical growth in our child is important to enable him to do well in school, be accepted by other children his age, and be safe from serious illness. We can help keep them fit and healthy by making sure they get enough rest, exercise and balanced meals.
1. Enough rest. Children need rest to grow properly. This is what sleeps gives them and most children need 10-12 hours of sleep for their bodies to get back the energy spent on play.
2. Physical activity. Active play and outdoor fun are ways to ensure our kids stay physically healthy. Encourage them to play outdoors for at least an hour each day. Today’s lifestyle keeps children indoors often with the television and video games to keep them busy. However, sedentary activities like these hinder healthy physical growth. It is recommended that children above five years of age have a maximum of two hours of TV time. Keep them busy with other activities the rest of the time.
3. Balance diet. Growing children need a balance amount of calcium and other vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. Ensuring they receive this through a balance diet will help keep them healthy.
