Akismet and WP Ban plugins, that is... to get rid of those spam comments.

After the overwhelming bulk of unsolicited messages I got in just a month, I was really determined to seek information and tips on how to prevent spammers from flooding my page. I'm new to all these things so thanks to Mommy Ruby for helping me out.

So what are these two plugins all about?

Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a API key to use it. To obtain such API key, you need first to create an account from

WP- Ban - obviously, it ban users by IP, IP Range, host name, user agent and referrer url from visiting your WordPress's blog. It will display a custom ban message when the banned IP, IP range, host name, user agent or referrer URL tries to visit you blog. You can also exclude certain IPs from being banned. There will be statistics recorded on how many times they attempt to visit your blog.

How to activate these plugins?

Simply, log in to your account. Click plugins located at the left pane on your dashboard and activate both.

It both worked well so far. Yesterday, I've already started deleting over 3K spams. And with just a very limited time, obviously I'm not done yet.

I'm halfway through though.
